UAE moves towards unified national health insurance system
President orders landmark scheme covering all emirates
ABU DHABI – The UAE is set to adopt a comprehensive national health insurance system that will extend across all emirates, marking a major step towards a fully unified healthcare framework for citizens.
The directive, issued by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, underscores a national vision to guarantee universal access to high-quality medical services and strengthen long-term health outcomes.
At the core of the initiative is a fully integrated national health insurance scheme designed to connect healthcare services across federal and local systems. The model aims to ensure that citizens receive consistent medical coverage regardless of emirate, while improving coordination between healthcare providers and enhancing system-wide efficiency.
Unified coverage model
The new framework is designed to establish a seamless healthcare experience by integrating existing health systems into one cohesive structure. This approach is intended to optimise resource utilisation, reduce duplication of services and ensure that healthcare delivery remains aligned with internationally recognised standards.
