Dubai Airshow 2025 innovation drives efficiency with automated approvals at ports
DUBAI – The Dubai Ports Authority, a division of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), has introduced the first AI-powered smart system for issuing operational approvals and safe work permits.
The new platform integrates Artificial Intelligence and Robotic Process Automation to accelerate and automate permit processes, enhancing digital transformation efforts across Dubai’s maritime sector. The launch aligns with the Corporation’s broader AI strategy to digitise services, reduce manual intervention, and strengthen operational safety.
According to Nasser Al Neyadi, CEO of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, the project supports the shift towards self-managed services with faster, safer, and more efficient operational procedures. The system enables automatic issuance of permits that meet strict technical and safety standards, covering approvals for dangerous goods acceptance, vessel bunkering operations, ship waste discharge, and safe work permits in port areas and ship repair facilities.
First AI-powered smart system
The smart platform processes approximately 44,000 transactions annually. It instantly approves compliant requests after digitally verifying data, while exceptional cases are automatically routed for human review.
This dual mechanism ensures both speed and governance, maintaining adherence to all regulatory and safety requirements.

It also lowers operational burdens on customers, eliminates paperwork, and ensures continuous compliance with port safety standards. Al Neyadi confirmed that Dubai Ports Authority will progressively expand the system’s capabilities based on real-time performance evaluations. The aim is to create a safer, smarter, and more efficient operational environment, boosting competitiveness and ensuring that Dubai remains a preferred destination for global maritime businesses.
