ABU DHABI – Umm Al Emarat Park and Tadweer Group have jointly set a new Guinness World Record for the largest recycled materials mosaic, marking a major community-led sustainability milestone in Abu Dhabi.

The record recognises a large-scale artwork created entirely from recycled plastic bottle caps, designed to promote environmental awareness and collective responsibility.

The achievement was formally acknowledged during an award ceremony held at Umm Al Emarat Park on Friday, attended by representatives from Tadweer Group, park officials and Guinness World Records adjudicators.

Largest recycled materials mosaic

The world record attempt followed an open invitation earlier this month for residents to actively participate in the creation of the mosaic. Families, students and visitors were encouraged to contribute by placing recycled plastic bottle caps onto a specially constructed wall inside the park. The artwork was designed around universal recycling symbols, with each participant adding a small but visible contribution to the overall piece, turning individual efforts into a single, unified installation.

The initiative was launched in partnership with Tadweer Group as the final phase of the “Cap Your Way to Sustainability” outreach campaign. Through this programme, schools and community partners across Abu Dhabi collected plastic bottle caps, reinforcing messages around recycling, waste reduction and responsible consumption. The campaign aimed to translate awareness into action by offering a practical and creative platform for engagement.

Construction of the mosaic took place over two dedicated participation periods from 8 to 10 December. During these sessions, Umm Al Emarat Park offered free entry at selected times to encourage wide community involvement. Tadweer Group, as the leading partner, oversaw the conceptual design, structural framework and a significant portion of the recycled materials used.

The completed mosaic covered an area of 25 square metres and incorporated a total of 24,846 plastic bottle caps. In total, 356 participants contributed to the artwork over a combined 18 hours of hands-on activity, meeting the criteria required to set the Guinness World Record.

Sustainability goals

Abdulwahed Juma, Executive Director of Communications and Awareness at Tadweer Group, said promoting a sustainable mindset remains central to the organisation’s mandate. He highlighted the group’s long-term objective of diverting 80 per cent of waste away from Abu Dhabi landfills by 2030, adding that community understanding and participation are critical to achieving this target.

Rasha Kablawi, official spokesperson for Umm Al Emarat Park, described the record as a reflection of collective effort and shared environmental values. She noted that the initiative aligns with the UAE’s Year of Community and reinforces the park’s commitment to sustainability-focused programmes that encourage innovation, participation and long-term environmental impact.
