Dubai Municipality opens expansive recreational plazas in Lehbab and Nazwah
Projects support ‘Year of the Family’ and local community engagement.
DUBAI – The Dubai Municipality has unveiled new recreational plazas in Lehbab (1), Lehbab (2), and Nazwah, expanding the city’s network of public spaces to enhance quality of life and wellbeing.
Covering more than 330,000 square feet, the developments form part of the Dubai Countryside and Rural Areas Development Master Plan, which seeks to enrich residential areas while preserving the natural character of the desert landscape.
The plazas are equipped with integrated sports facilities, running tracks, children’s play areas, and community spaces supporting physical activity and social interaction.
Focus on rural development
The projects reflect the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai’s rural areas into attractive and distinctive destinations.
They are aligned with Dubai Municipality’s vision of designing future-ready, human-centred public environments that prioritise people’s needs and wellbeing.
State-of-the-art facilities
Lehbab (1) features two football pitches, a volleyball court, a basketball court, a running track, a warm-up and multi-use area, outdoor fitness equipment, and two children’s play zones with rubber flooring. Lehbab (2) includes a football pitch, volleyball and basketball courts, a running track with fitness equipment, and a safe children’s play area. In Nazwah, the development works involved ground levelling, installation of new surfaces, sports courts, a running track, and a children’s play area, providing residents with accessible recreational facilities.
Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, stated that developing rural and desert areas is a priority under the Municipality’s strategic vision. He emphasised that accessible parks and recreational spaces foster comfort, wellbeing, and stronger connections between residents and their surroundings.
Bader Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency, added that the plazas are tailored to community needs, encouraging physical activity and social engagement while reflecting the unique character of each area.
Ongoing expansion
In addition to the new plazas, Dubai Municipality is developing Margham and Al Lisaili parks. Planned facilities include football pitches, sand running tracks, landscaped seating areas, decorative planting, advanced lighting, and smart surveillance systems. The first phase has already seen the inauguration of volleyball courts, further enhancing the region’s recreational offerings.
These developments also support the objectives of the ‘Year of the Family’ and contribute to the Dubai 2040 Parks and Afforestation Strategy, which aims to deliver more than 630 parks across the emirate to improve the urban environment, reduce heat emissions, and strengthen sustainability credentials.
