From Dubai Marina to desert dunes: Jack Ryan’s newest mission hits Dubai
Prime Video release features iconic emirate landmarks and desert backdrops
DUBAI – Dubai has expanded its growing footprint in the global entertainment industry with the release of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War, the latest feature from Amazon MGM Studios that filmed key scenes across the emirate in collaboration with the Dubai Media Council and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET).
The film, which premiered globally on Prime Video on Wednesday, marks another major international production to choose Dubai as a filming destination, further strengthening the city’s standing as a global hub for media and creative industries. Supported by the Dubai Media Council and overseen by the Dubai Film Development Committee, the project showcased a wide range of Dubai’s locations, production capabilities, and creative infrastructure.
Filmed in early 2025, the latest instalment in the Jack Ryan franchise combines high-intensity espionage action with scenes shot against Dubai’s futuristic skyline, desert terrain, waterfront districts, and commercial centres. The production also underlines Dubai’s strategy to position itself among the world’s leading destinations for international film and television projects.
Jack Ryan: Ghost War
The new film stars John Krasinski in the title role, alongside Sienna Miller, with returning cast members Wendell Pierce and Michael Kelly, who previously appeared in the Prime Video series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.
Dubai was one of five cities featured in the film and provided a range of filming environments, from urban landscapes and luxury hospitality venues to heritage districts and desert settings. Key locations appearing in the production include Dubai Marina and its traditional dhow vessels, Al Seef, One&Only One Za’abeel, Emirates Towers, Burj Park, and the Gate Avenue district in DIFC.
The emirate’s desert landscapes also played a major role in the film’s action sequences, adding visual contrast to the modern cityscapes featured throughout the production.
Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council and Director General of the Government of Dubai Media Office, said Dubai continues to reinforce its position as a leading destination for global productions through a long-term vision centred on building an advanced media ecosystem.
She said international productions are increasingly selecting Dubai for its combination of world-class infrastructure, skilled creative talent, efficient production processes, and supportive environment for filmmakers.
According to Al Marri, projects such as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War contribute to expanding Dubai’s international presence while supporting the growth of the emirate’s creative economy and entertainment sector.
Filming in Dubai
Issam Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, part of DET, and Chairman of the Dubai Film Development Committee, said Dubai has consistently focused on partnerships that strengthen creativity and innovation across industries.
He said the collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios highlighted the close relationship between tourism, entertainment, and culture while further promoting Dubai as a premier filming destination.
Kazim added that the project represented another step in strengthening Dubai’s media production ecosystem and expanding local capabilities and talent in the sector.
Established earlier this year under the Dubai Media Council, the Dubai Film Development Committee has been tasked with supporting the growth of the emirate’s film industry. The committee works to streamline filming procedures, coordinate with government authorities, and facilitate production requirements for international studios and filmmakers operating in Dubai.
The production of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War involved extensive cooperation between public and private entities. Support for filming was provided by Dubai Police, the Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Municipality, Emirates Airline, and several private sector partners.
The film is directed by Andrew Bernstein and produced by Sunday Night’s John Krasinski and Allyson Seeger, alongside producer Andrew Form.
The project was produced in association with Amazon MGM Studios, Paramount Pictures, and Skydance. Executive producers include David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, John Kelly, Carlton Cuse, and the late author Tom Clancy. The screenplay was written by Aaron Rabin and John Krasinski, based on a story by Noah Oppenheim and Krasinski.
