Eid Al-Adha 2026 pardons: UAE leaders order release of hundreds of inmates
Humanitarian directives issued across emirates
ABU DHABI – UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 956 inmates from correctional institutions across the country ahead of Eid Al-Adha.
The directive also includes the settlement of financial obligations arising from prisoners’ sentences, ensuring full completion of legal requirements linked to the pardon.
The initiative reflects a humanitarian approach centred on compassion and social solidarity, with a focus on strengthening family and community stability during the festive period.
Dubai
In Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, has ordered the release of 836 prisoners of various nationalities from correctional and punitive establishments ahead of Eid Al-Adha.
Dubai Public Prosecution, in coordination with Dubai Police, has begun legal procedures to implement the directive. Chancellor Essam Issa Al-Humaidan, Attorney General of Dubai, said the pardon reflects a commitment to bringing happiness to families and offering inmates an opportunity to start anew and reintegrate into society.
Sharjah
His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has ordered the release of 227 inmates from the Punishment and Correctional Institution in Sharjah ahead of Eid Al-Adha.
The pardons apply to inmates who met conditions for clemency based on good conduct and behaviour, in line with established requirements for eligibility.
Ras Al Khaimah
His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has ordered the release of 443 inmates from correctional and punitive establishments across the emirate.
The beneficiaries were convicted in various cases and met rehabilitation conditions for pardon. The decision is aimed at enabling them to spend Eid Al-Adha with their families and begin reintegration into society.
Counselor Hassan Saeed Mhimed, Attorney-General of Ras Al Khaimah, expressed appreciation for the gesture, highlighting its impact in bringing joy to families during the occasion.
Ajman
His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, has ordered the release of 230 inmates who demonstrated good conduct during their sentences in punitive and correctional institutions.
The move reflects a humanitarian approach aimed at easing family burdens and providing inmates with the opportunity for a fresh start. Authorities confirmed that release procedures have been initiated immediately.
Umm Al Qaiwain
His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain, has ordered the release of a number of inmates from correctional institutions in the emirate ahead of Eid Al-Adha.
The gesture is intended to allow pardoned individuals to reunite with their families and begin a new chapter during the Eid period, in line with values of forgiveness and compassion.
