Abu Dhabi rolls out self-driving cleaning fleet on Corniche
Autonomous sweepers reduce manual labour and improve operational efficiency
ABU DHABI – The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), an affiliate of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), has launched a fleet of autonomous Robosweeper cleaning vehicles along the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
The initiative highlights the emirate’s growing focus on smart, eco-friendly, and efficient urban infrastructure.
Developed by K2 subsidiary Autogo under the supervision of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council, the project is part of a wider vision to improve living standards and reduce reliance on manual labour.
Intelligent urban innovation
The Robosweeper units are equipped with advanced sensors and navigation systems, allowing them to move autonomously along pre-programmed routes across pavements, pedestrian zones, and public squares. They perform thorough cleaning and sanitisation without human intervention, ensuring consistent hygiene across busy public areas. The technology represents a key stride in optimising municipal operations and integrating artificial intelligence into daily city management.

Dr Saif Sultan Al Nasri, Acting Undersecretary at DMT, said the deployment reflects Abu Dhabi’s proactive approach to embedding innovation into public infrastructure. He added that the programme “reinforces Abu Dhabi’s global standing as a forward-thinking, highly efficient capital city.”
Towards sustainable services
The initiative aligns with the emirate’s broader strategy to build an integrated and advanced services system aimed at improving operational efficiency and quality of life. Dr Abdulla Hamad Al Ghfeli, Acting Director General of the ITC, said the project demonstrates Abu Dhabi’s commitment to smart and green solutions that advance transport and public service sectors while adopting the latest global best practices.

“This represents an important step towards building a unified framework that enhances community wellbeing and secures a better future for generations to come,” Dr Al Ghfeli noted.

Sean Teo, Managing Director of K2, described the collaboration with ITC and Abu Dhabi Municipality as a milestone in the development of intelligent service solutions. He said the Robosweeper technology “represents a leap forward in building future cities” and reaffirms K2’s dedication to advancing innovative robotics that support Abu Dhabi’s long-term vision.
