DUBAIIndia on Sunday secured a six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup Super Four stage at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, chasing down a 172-run target with measured authority.

Pakistan’s innings

After winning the toss, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav elected to field, sending Pakistan in to bat first. Openers Fakhar Zaman and Sahibzada Farhan gave the innings a brisk start before Fakhar fell for 15, caught behind with the score on 21.

Saim Ayub contributed 21 before being dismissed at 93, followed soon after by Hussain Talat, who managed only 10. The key knock came from Sahibzada Farhan, who top-scored with a composed 58 off 45 balls, striking boundaries with precision before being dismissed at 115. Mohammad Nawaz added 21 from 19 deliveries before being run out.

Pakistan ended their innings on 171 for five in the allotted 20 overs. For India, Shivam Dube claimed two wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya picked up one each.

India’s chase

India’s response was led by opener Abhishek Sharma, who struck a blistering 74 from 39 balls, decorated with five sixes and six fours. His partnership with vice-captain Shubman Gill set the tone for the chase. Gill scored 47 from 28 deliveries, featuring eight boundaries, before being clean bowled by Faheem Ashraf with the score on 105.

Suryakumar Yadav departed without scoring, caught off Haris Rauf, while wicketkeeper Sanju Samson made 13 before falling to the same bowler. Tilak Varma (30*) and Hardik Pandya (7*) ensured India reached the target in the 19th over, finishing at 172 for four.

For Pakistan, Haris Rauf took two wickets, while Faheem Ashraf and Abrar Ahmed claimed one apiece.

Second successive defeat

The result marked India’s second win over Pakistan in the tournament, having previously beaten them by seven wickets in the group stage. While Sahibzada Farhan’s half-century was a highlight for Pakistan, it proved insufficient against India’s aggressive top-order batting.

The Super Four victory strengthens India’s position in the Asia Cup, while Pakistan are left searching for answers ahead of their remaining fixtures.
