UAE Jiu-Jitsu team win six medals at Asian Beach Games in China
Silver and bronze added on final day of competition
DUBAI/SANYA – The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team has concluded its campaign at the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, with a total of six medals, underlining its growing stature on the continental stage.
The tally includes two gold, two silver and two bronze medals, reflecting a balanced and competitive performance across multiple weight divisions.
The final day of action saw athletes compete in the men’s 69kg and 77kg categories, alongside the women’s 57kg division. The results reinforced the team’s ability to perform consistently in a tournament marked by closely matched competitors and varied technical approaches.
Final Day
Mahdi Al Awlaqi secured a silver medal in the men’s 77kg category after a series of controlled performances, while Shamsa Al Ameri added a bronze in the women’s 57kg division. Their podium finishes contributed to the UAE’s overall medal count and demonstrated the depth within the squad.

The competition featured high-intensity bouts, with athletes required to adapt quickly to different fighting styles and maintain tactical discipline. The UAE team’s ability to navigate these challenges was evident throughout the event, particularly in decisive moments during transitions and groundwork exchanges.
The results have been attributed to the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s structured preparation system, which integrates technical training, physical conditioning and mental readiness. This approach has enabled athletes to translate preparation into results on major continental stages.

Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the federation, praised the team’s performance, highlighting the long-term strategy behind the achievement. He noted that sustained investment in athlete development and expanding participation has strengthened the UAE’s competitive edge.
He said the federation’s vision centres on building a system capable of delivering consistent results, with a focus on enhancing performance standards and preparing athletes to handle pressure in elite competitions. He added that maintaining this level requires continuous effort and a sustainable framework for future talent development.
Tactical edge
Brazilian coach Gabriel Alves pointed to the tactical intensity of the matches, particularly on the second day, where margins between competitors were minimal. He emphasised the importance of controlling match pace and positioning, which proved decisive in several bouts.
Alves said the athletes delivered strong performances despite the level of competition, noting that both Al Awlaqi and Al Ameri capitalised on key moments to secure their medals. He added that the team will continue refining technical aspects to strengthen readiness for upcoming tournaments.
Al Awlaqi expressed pride in his silver medal performance, crediting team unity and adherence to strategy as key factors. He said maintaining focus during critical phases of matches played an important role in securing his result, adding that the experience will serve as motivation for future competitions.
