Dubai opens new 1.8km flyover to ease Investment Park traffic (VIDEO)
Future expansion plans include connectivity to Jumeirah Golf Estates
DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in cooperation with Etihad Rail, has officially opened a new 1.8 kilometre, signal-controlled flyover designed to significantly improve traffic flow along Al Yalayis Street.
The three-lane structure aims to facilitate vehicle movement to and from Dubai Investment Park, offering drivers smoother access routes while enhancing overall road safety.
This development also aligns with Dubai’s broader efforts to integrate road and rail transport infrastructures for a more efficient urban mobility system.
New traffic solutions
The newly opened flyover features a right-turn slip road from Dubai into Dubai Investment Park, and another slip road for vehicles exiting towards Sheikh Zayed Road. Designed to handle high traffic volumes, the flyover ensures seamless vehicle movement by eliminating the need for at-grade intersections. The project is part of RTA’s strategic initiatives to enhance traffic efficiency while supporting the movement of trains within the median strip of Al Yalayis Street.
Importantly, the flyover’s design completely separates train operations from vehicular traffic, enabling both modes of transport to operate independently without disruption. This separation improves safety standards and maintains uninterrupted traffic flow for daily commuters and logistics operators in the area.
Strategic infrastructure move
The opening of the flyover marks another milestone in the strategic partnership between RTA and Etihad Rail, reinforcing efforts to strengthen the UAE’s national railway network. The Etihad Rail network is a key pillar in the country’s comprehensive development plans, providing a sustainable and efficient transport option for both passengers and freight.
Etihad Rail has committed to working closely with UAE authorities to maintain the highest international standards in service delivery, infrastructure safety, and operational efficiency. The integration of the new flyover plays a vital role in boosting the reliability of train services, particularly by enhancing linkages across vital economic zones within Dubai and beyond.
This latest project demonstrates how Dubai is proactively aligning its infrastructure upgrades with future growth demands, ensuring that residents, businesses, and visitors experience world-class transport connectivity.
Future expansion plans
Looking ahead, the RTA plans to extend the flyover to improve connectivity to Jumeirah Golf Estates. The extension will feature a two-lane road in each direction, further strengthening the area's internal road network and easing traffic congestion.
