RTA rolls out rapid traffic solutions at 8 key Dubai locations
New projects aim to cut journey times by up to 30%
DUBAI – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a comprehensive set of rapid traffic solutions at eight strategic locations across Dubai, marking the first phase of a 2026 plan that will encompass more than 45 enhancements.
The initiative is aimed at improving road efficiency, easing congestion, and enhancing safety for all users, in response to Dubai’s growing urban population and rising vehicle numbers.
The targeted locations include Emirates Road from Sharjah towards Wadi Al Amardi Street; Umm Amara Street from Sheikh Zayed Road towards Al Wasl Street; Jebel Ali–Lehbab Street; the area between Sama Al Jaddaf and Al Jaddaf Waterfront near Al Jaddaf Metro Station; Al Na'ayat Street in Al Barsha 1; Al Maktoum School in Al Satwa; the intersection of Al Ittihad Street and Al Quds Street; and Sheikh Rashid Street near Grand Hyatt Dubai towards Bur Dubai.
Street upgrades
The improvements involve widening streets from one lane to two lanes, converting roundabouts into signalised intersections, constructing new links to connect main roads with residential and commercial districts, and implementing at-grade upgrades.
Additional parking facilities at schools and key locations are also included, alongside traffic safety enhancements to ensure a seamless and secure experience for drivers and pedestrians alike.
Efficiency boost
RTA expects the projects to reduce congestion and shorten journey times by 15% to 30%, delivering measurable improvements in traffic flow and operational efficiency across the upgraded areas.
The enhancements are part of Dubai’s broader commitment to creating a smarter, safer, and more connected road network.
Data-driven approach
The authority applies a rigorous methodology when planning upgrades. Continuous monitoring, traffic studies, and detailed data analysis identify congestion hotspots. Traffic control centres provide real-time monitoring to detect bottlenecks, while field inspection teams evaluate conditions and recommend solutions. This integrated approach ensures tangible improvements during peak hours and supports Dubai’s goal of efficient urban mobility.
