Sandbox Dubai supports testing of innovative business models in UAE
DUBAI Future Foundation and Amazon UAE have announced the launch of a new pilot programme that allows individuals to earn through on-foot package deliveries across the city.
The initiative follows Amazon’s agreement to join the Dubai Future Foundation’s Sandbox Dubai platform, which was recently approved by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dubai Future Foundation.

Sandbox Dubai focuses on enabling pioneering projects by developing flexible legislation for innovative economic models. Its latest step with Amazon highlights Dubai’s strategy to embrace futuristic practices while creating new opportunities for residents and entrepreneurs alike. The programme is designed to encourage flexible income streams while simultaneously contributing to the city’s economic and sustainability goals.
Participants in the pilot scheme will deliver packages on foot, particularly in densely populated areas where traditional vehicle deliveries can be less efficient. The model aims to utilise idle working hours, provide new income options for individuals and small business owners, and allow businesses to scale operations with ease.
The initiative also addresses wider urban challenges. By reducing dependence on delivery vehicles, the project supports Dubai’s efforts to ease traffic congestion and reduce carbon emissions, in line with its sustainability commitments.
Ronaldo Mouchawar, Vice President of Amazon Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, said the collaboration is part of Amazon’s mission to provide fast, convenient, and reliable services, while boosting entrepreneurship and flexibility in the gig economy.
According to Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Future Foundation, the partnership reflects the UAE’s strong public-private sector collaboration to build supportive frameworks for innovation. It also helps launch pilot projects that strengthen competitiveness and prepare the economy for the future.
Sandbox Dubai is one of the key transformational initiatives within the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), which aims to double the Emirate’s economy within the next decade and position Dubai among the world’s top three global economic hubs.
