Dubai Police recover UAE resident’s Dh1.1 million diamonds from Bangladesh (VIDEO)
Embassy in Dhaka played key role to retrieve the bag carrying jewellery
DUBAI: Dubai Police have successfully recovered a diamond-studded jewellery bag worth Dh1.1 million from Bangladesh.
The bag belonged to a UAE-based jeweller and was retrieved in coordination with Bangladeshi authorities and the UAE Embassy in Dhaka.
Dubai Police extended their gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh, Abdulla Ali Abdulla Al Hamoudi, for facilitating the legal and diplomatic procedures that led to the bag’s safe return. The jeweller, deeply touched by the swift action, lauded the efforts of both nations’ authorities.
How it happened
The incident began when the Dubai resident travelled to a GCC country to attend a jewellery exhibition, carrying four bags containing diamond pieces. Upon reaching his destination, he was stunned to discover that one of the bags he had was not his.
He immediately returned to the UAE and filed a report with the General Department of Airport Security. A specialist investigation team was formed, which discovered that a Bangladeshi passenger had accidentally taken the jeweller’s bag during a security check – mistaking it for his own due to their similar appearance. The jeweller had unknowingly picked up the other man’s bag in return.
Swift coordination
Dubai Police swiftly activated legal protocols and contacted Bangladeshi officials. With direct assistance from the UAE Embassy in Dhaka, the bag was successfully located and returned to the rightful owner.
Authorities highlighted the importance of such international cooperation in ensuring justice and enhancing security across borders. Dubai Police reiterated their commitment to international partnerships as part of their strategy to serve all members of the community – residents, visitors, and citizens alike.
The jeweller, visibly relieved, stated: “Your remarkable attention to detail and sincere commitment to making people happy are beyond commendable.”
