Dubai launches UAE’s first autonomous baggage handling trial at DWC
GCAA collaborates with dnata and Dubai Airports for regulatory framework
DUBAI: The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has granted the country’s first regulatory approval for a national trial of autonomous baggage handling vehicles.
The test, conducted in collaboration with Dubai Airports and dnata, will take place at Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC), signalling a key milestone in the nation’s push for aviation innovation.
This trial allows dnata to operate multiple autonomous baggage tractors under live airside conditions, where the timing and safety of operations are critical. It will run within a carefully crafted framework developed by the GCAA, aimed at enabling real-world testing of autonomous mobility without compromising operational safety.
Regulatory milestone
With this move, the UAE joins the ranks of leading aviation markets exploring automation on airport ramps. The initiative sets a regulatory precedent, balancing the integration of cutting-edge technology with aviation safety.

Dubai Airports has positioned DWC as an innovation hub for emerging aviation technologies.
