DUBAI: Pakistan has secured a place among the top 20 most generous nations, according to the World Giving Report 2025, jointly released by the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) and the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), UK.

Ranked 17th out of 101 countries, Pakistan has shown consistent strength in charitable giving, volunteering time, and helping strangers – the three benchmarks that form the global generosity index.

Strong donation culture

Pakistan performed notably in the domain of individual donations, also ranking 17th globally by the proportion of income donated. Despite persistent economic pressure, the country’s giving culture remains resilient, driven by a combination of faith-based obligations such as Zakat, and informal support systems within communities. These mechanisms act as a powerful safety net for underprivileged populations across the nation.

Shazia Maqsood Amjad, Executive Director of PCP, said: “This ranking reflects a culture rooted in compassion, where Pakistanis contribute not only financially but also through their time and efforts in uplifting others.”

Giving amid hardship

The report reveals that nearly three in five Pakistanis helped someone they didn’t know, while a significant percentage reported donating money or time over the past year. This aligns with PCP’s own findings, which highlight active philanthropic engagement across sectors such as education, healthcare, poverty alleviation, and disaster response.

Globally, the report found that generosity persists even amid economic hardship – a trend that Pakistan exemplifies. The country’s model of widespread, people-driven charity stands in contrast to formal aid systems and continues to play a key role in social resilience.
