flydubai unveils first sustainability report outlining 5-year green growth strategy
Dubai carrier sets new goals for climate action, innovation and community impact
DUBAI – Dubai-based carrier flydubai has announced the publication of its inaugural Sustainability Report for 2025, titled “fly forward 2025”, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s sustainability journey.
The report outlines the formal implementation of the carrier’s five-year sustainability strategy, designed to integrate responsible practices across its operations and value chain. It highlights flydubai’s approach towards balancing network growth, environmental responsibility and support for the communities it serves.
Developed with reference to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards and aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the report is structured around six core environmental, social and governance (ESG) pillars. These pillars reflect the airline’s commitment to strengthening its sustainability framework while continuing to expand its role in supporting Dubai’s position as a leading global aviation hub.

In 2025, flydubai conducted a double materiality assessment to evaluate key sustainability priorities. The assessment examined impact materiality, focusing on how the airline’s operations influence the environment and society, as well as financial materiality, assessing how sustainability-related topics could affect the carrier’s enterprise value and overall performance.
Sustainability strategy
The findings from the assessment have shaped a five-year sustainability strategy supported by clear key performance indicators (KPIs), allowing flydubai to identify priority areas and measure progress towards its long-term ambitions.
Commenting on the publication of the report, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, said: “To lead a forward-thinking airline is to carry a responsibility that extends beyond the markets we serve to the generations who will inherit the outcomes of today’s decisions. This inaugural Sustainability Report reflects that responsibility and flydubai’s commitment to embedding it at the core of how the airline is governed. Guided by the UAE’s vision for a net-zero, resilient future, we are determined to pursue growth that reflects the ambitions of our nation and honours the legacy we are shaping together.”

The report reflects flydubai’s progress in establishing a structured sustainability approach and sets out the direction for the airline’s responsible growth. It also highlights the carrier’s efforts to incorporate sustainability considerations into decision-making processes across its business.
Sustainability pillars
The “fly forward 2025” strategy is built around six key pillars covering climate action, environmental responsibility, people, partnerships, operational excellence and innovation.

The first pillar, “Climate-ready operations”, focuses on improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions throughout flydubai’s operations. The airline aims to strengthen its climate action efforts through operational improvements and more efficient practices.
“Environmental stewardship” outlines the carrier’s approach to managing its environmental impact through waste circularity, responsible resource management and wildlife protection initiatives.
The “People at our core” pillar highlights flydubai’s focus on its employees, communities and connectivity across markets, while “Stronger together” reflects the airline’s wider commitment to working with suppliers, partners and organisations that share its sustainability values.
The fifth pillar, “Excellence in safety, compliance and services”, focuses on maintaining high standards across safety management, regulatory compliance and customer experience. The final pillar, “Intelligent aviation”, highlights the role of technology, artificial intelligence and data analytics in improving fuel efficiency, enhancing safety and reducing environmental impact.
Focus on future
Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai, said: “Sustainability will continue to guide flydubai’s strategic direction as we continue to build a resilient and responsible future. Our first Sustainability Report marks an important milestone, reflecting the progress we have made and the clear direction we have set for responsible growth. In 2025, we completed our first comprehensive sustainability assessment and established a focused five-year strategy, enabling us to prioritise the areas where we can deliver the greatest impact. These efforts are essential to building a resilient organisation that can adapt to evolving industry and regulatory demands.”
As part of its continued focus on innovation, flydubai is expanding its technology infrastructure through strategic collaborations. The airline has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to implement generative artificial intelligence across flight operations and is working with Starlink to introduce high-speed, low-latency broadband connectivity across its fleet.

The carrier is also preparing for future fleet growth, supported by its extensive narrowbody aircraft order portfolio and the arrival of widebody Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. These developments form part of flydubai’s broader plans to enhance connectivity, strengthen operational capabilities and support efficient aviation growth.
