DUBAI – Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recorded more than 2.8 million passenger journeys across public transport and shared mobility services during New Year’s Eve 2026 celebrations.

The figures mark a growth of over 13% compared to the previous year, reflecting increased reliance on mass transit and organised transport networks during one of the busiest nights in the emirate. Operations were delivered under a comprehensive traffic and transport plan designed to support crowd movement, safety and access to celebration zones.

The total number of passengers using public transport, taxis, e-hailing services and shared mobility reached 2,836,859, up from 2,502,474 passengers recorded on New Year’s Eve 2025. The rise highlights sustained growth in public transport usage during major citywide events, supported by extended service hours and coordinated traffic management measures.

Transport network

Dubai Metro services on the Red and Green Lines accounted for the highest share of ridership, transporting 1,249,636 passengers during the celebrations. Dubai Tram services recorded 58,052 passenger journeys, while public buses and bus-on-demand services carried a combined total of 503,264 passengers across the emirate.

Taxi services played a significant role in last-mile connectivity, transporting 661,538 passengers throughout the night. Marine transport services, operating across all modes, ferried 76,745 passengers, supporting movement along key waterfront destinations and event locations.

Shared mobility

E-hailing platforms transported 286,135 passengers, reflecting strong demand for app-based services during peak celebration hours.

Shared mobility services, including scooters and similar options, recorded 1,489 passenger trips, supplementing the wider transport network in high-density areas.

Operational planning

The transport performance was delivered through an integrated traffic and operational plan that included traffic regulation, temporary road closures and crowd flow management. These measures were implemented in direct coordination with the Dubai Event Security Committee, relevant authorities and strategic partners, ensuring uninterrupted access to major celebration sites and smooth mobility across the city.

RTA stated that the coordinated approach supported the safe and efficient movement of residents and visitors throughout New Year’s Eve, reinforcing Dubai’s ability to manage large-scale events while maintaining high operational standards across its transport infrastructure.
