Pakistan’s Hamzah Omar Saeed clinches gold at Asian Taekwondo Open Championships
Heavyweight star dominates every knockout bout on way to title
JAKARTA -- Pakistan’s Hamzah Omar Saeed has produced an outstanding display to capture the gold medal in the Men’s +87 kg category at the 8th Asian Taekwondo Open Championships (G2) in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Pakistani heavyweight remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, overcoming opponents from India, Australia, Indonesia and Slovenia. His commanding performances underlined his consistency and attacking prowess on the international stage.
Hamzah sealed the title with a convincing straight-round victory in the final, completing an impressive run through the competition.
Road to Gold
Hamzah began his campaign in the Round of 16 with a confident win over India’s Manjeet Singh Rathod. He controlled both rounds to secure a 10-4 victory in the opening round before extending his dominance with a 13-4 win in the second, progressing comfortably to the quarter-finals.
The quarter-final against Australia’s Aiden Stilley proved to be his toughest contest of the tournament. Hamzah stormed through the opening round 12-0, while the second round ended level at 8-8. He responded emphatically in the deciding round, producing a commanding 12-3 performance to book his place in the last four.
In the semi-final, Hamzah faced Indonesia’s Ezar Faadihillah and delivered another composed display. He edged a closely fought opening round 3-2 before completely taking control in the second, recording a remarkable 13-0 victory to advance to the gold medal match.
The championship bout saw Hamzah take on Slovenia’s Richard Hanusovsky for the title. The Pakistani maintained control from the outset, winning the first round 9-4 before sealing the contest with another 9-3 victory in the second round.
