Dubai Ruler explores future of species preservation at World Governments Summit 2026
Thousands of policymakers convene as agenda tackles governance in fast-changing world
DUBAI – The World Governments Summit 2026 opened in Dubai with its largest-ever international participation, bringing together global leaders, ministers and experts under the theme Shaping Future Governments.
Among the key moments of the opening day was a visit by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to one of the summit’s most visually striking scientific experiences. He toured the World Preservation Lab and BioVault exhibit, spotlighting advances in biodiversity protection and genetic science.
The experience is presented by the Museum of the Future in collaboration with Colossal Biosciences, a global biotechnology and genetic engineering company. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai; and Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

Also present during the tour were Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the World Governments Summit Organisation; along with ministers and senior officials.
Immersive science
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed explored multiple sections of the exhibit, designed to introduce visitors to scientific innovations focused on protecting endangered species, restoring extinct species and conserving ecosystems. The installation delivers an immersive audio-visual journey, combining biodiversity awareness with environmental education linked to both regional and global challenges.
The exhibit unfolds across six stages that demonstrate species revival processes. These include the Tasmanian tiger, or thylacine, the dodo and the mammoth. 3D-printed skeletal models, holographic projections, dynamic lighting and special effects form part of the experience, offering a visual representation of how advanced science may contribute to future conservation efforts.
Genetic archive
A central feature of the installation is the BioVault, designed as a secure repository for cells and genetic material from endangered species. The facility concept highlights long-term biodiversity safeguarding and supports future scientific work aimed at species revival and ecosystem stability.
The World Preservation Lab and BioVault emphasises knowledge partnerships, international cooperation and the integration of advanced technology in addressing environmental pressures. The exhibit reflects the UAE’s focus on scientific solutions aligned with future environmental and biodiversity needs, presented within a global governance platform.
World Governments Summit
Beyond the exhibit, the summit itself marks a record edition. More than 6,250 decision-makers and thinkers are taking part. The event hosts over 45 heads of state and government and more than 15 deputy heads of state, alongside over 500 ministers and representatives from more than 150 governments.

The agenda includes more than 445 sessions featuring over 450 global speakers. Participants also include more than 700 CEOs of major corporations, 87 laureates of prestigious global scientific awards including the Nobel Prize, and over 80 international and regional organisations, as well as global and academic institutions.
The expanded programme features 25 global forums and more than 45 ministerial and high-level meetings. The summit will issue 36 strategic reports in cooperation with international knowledge partners and launch the third edition of the Global Ministers Survey, while honours presented this year include the Best Minister Award, the Most Reformed Government Global Award, the Dubai International Best Practices Award for Sustainable Development and the Global Teacher Prize, as discussions continue across governance, technology and sustainability.
