Gold-plated car worth Dh3.67 million unveiled at Sharjah jewellery show
First-time exhibitors from Russia, Mexico, Egypt and Tanzania join the show
SHARJAH: A gold-plated car valued at Dh3.67 million is drawing crowds at the 55th Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show, currently underway at Expo Centre Sharjah.
The prestigious exhibition has once again transformed Sharjah into a glittering destination for jewellery enthusiasts and industry professionals alike. With rare gold pieces, luxury watches, and diamond masterpieces on display, the event is showcasing the best of local and global craftsmanship and will continue through 1 June 2025.
The automotive masterpiece, presented by Al Romaizan Gold and Jewellery, is based on a 2014 Nissan GT-R and fully covered in ornate 24K gold-plated engravings.
Nicknamed ‘Gold-Zilla’ for its striking appearance and robust performance, the one-of-a-kind car is a collaboration between Japan’s Kuhl Racing and Japanese artist Takahiko Izawa.
Over 2,000 hours were spent hand-engraving every inch of the vehicle before it was finished in gold, creating a dramatic fusion of mechanical engineering and detailed artistry.
Italian Pavilion appeal
The Italian pavilion is another major attraction at the show. Spanning 708 square metres, it brings together nearly 50 exhibitors, including some of Italy’s most renowned brands and jewellery houses. From diamond-studded collections to rare gemstones and fine metals, the pavilion offers an elegant mix of contemporary and classic Italian design.
Visitors have been captivated by the array of pieces reflecting Italy’s rich artistic traditions, with several collections designed to evoke the cultural essence of various Italian regions. The exhibit has sparked conversations around heritage and innovation in modern jewellery design.
Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show
This year’s edition boasts over 500 exhibitors and leading brands from across the globe. Countries represented include the UAE, India, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore, China, Japan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Lebanon. Notably, Russia, Mexico, Tanzania, and Egypt are participating for the first time, marking a growing international footprint for the event.
The exhibition is open to visitors on Friday from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
