UAE affirms self-defence as vital sectors operate normally amid regional tensions
Embassy in Tehran closed, ambassador withdrawn
DUBAI – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) retains its full and inherent right to self-defence as regional tensions intensify following Iranian armed aggression, Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy said on Tuesday.
Speaking during the UAE Government’s media briefing, she stressed that the country’s position is grounded in clear and firm principles, while all vital sectors across the UAE continue to operate without interruption.
Despite the gravity of recent developments, she affirmed that daily life across the country is proceeding normally, with national institutions maintaining stability and cohesion. She underscored that the UAE’s approach remains balanced and guided by wisdom and restraint, even as it safeguards its sovereignty and national interests.
Diplomatic efforts
Al Hashimy said the UAE, alongside other Gulf states, had made intensive diplomatic efforts to prevent military confrontation and curb further escalation. She noted that these efforts were rooted in the firm belief that Gulf security is indivisible.
She added that Iran carried out its attacks without taking the UAE’s declared position into consideration, describing the strikes as unjustified and carrying serious implications for regional security and stability.
Protective measures
The Minister confirmed that the UAE has taken diplomatic steps including closing its embassy in Tehran and withdrawing its ambassador. These measures, she said, are part of actions deemed necessary to safeguard national interests and security.
She reiterated that the UAE reserves its full and legitimate right to self-defence and to protect its sovereignty.
National stability
While emphasising that the UAE does not seek to widen the conflict and does not view military solutions as leading to stable outcomes, Al Hashimy reaffirmed that the country remains committed to protecting national security and maintaining regional stability.
All vital sectors continue functioning without disruption, she said, underscoring that the UAE’s message remains clear: the Iranian attacks are unjustified and carry serious consequences.
