Ras Al Khaimah launches first electric bus with free Purple Route travel for one month
Extended route connects hospitals, university, and major retail hubs in the emirate
RAS AL KHAIMAH – The future of mobility is now taking shape in Ras Al Khaimah, as the emirate introduces its first electric bus into the public transport network.
The launch marks a major step towards cleaner and more efficient travel options for residents and visitors. Alongside this, the upgraded Purple Route has been relaunched with expanded coverage and improved service frequency.

The electric bus has been introduced as part of the Purple Route, serving key community destinations including hospitals, government centres, and educational institutions.

The service highlights Ras Al Khaimah’s shift towards environmentally friendly transport solutions.
Purple Route expansion
The updated Purple Route now links Al Nakheel with Manar Mall, stretching an additional 14 kilometres and operating 12 trips daily.
New stops include the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, Obaidullah Hospital, American University of Ras Al Khaimah, Al Seih, Ras Al Khaimah Hospital, the Public Health Centre – Preventive Medicine, and the People of Determination Centre.
The extension aims to improve connectivity across essential public services and daily commuter routes.
Free travel
Passengers can travel free of charge on the Purple Route for one month starting 3 June 2026, offering wider access to the upgraded service during its initial rollout phase.
In parallel developments, autonomous transport trials continue at Al Marjan Island with robobuses already in operation, while Uber is preparing to introduce taxi and limousine services in the emirate, signalling further expansion in mobility options.
