Dubai to host first-ever Women’s Triathlon World Cup tomorrow
Championship features Professional, Sprint and Super Sprint race categories
DUBAI – The inaugural edition of the Women’s Triathlon World Cup – Dubai 2025 is set to begin tomorrow, marking a historic milestone in women’s sports worldwide.
Organised by the Dubai Sports Council under the Sheikha Hind Sports Initiative and aligned with the Dubai Sports Plan 2033, the championship will take place at Dubai Islands under the supervision of the World Triathlon Federation and in cooperation with the UAE Triathlon Federation.
This first global triathlon event dedicated entirely to women features multiple race categories to cater to both elite athletes and newcomers.
Race categories and formats
The Super Sprint category, aimed at beginners and team participants, covers 400 metres swimming, 10 kilometres cycling, and 2.5 kilometres running.
The Sprint category, designed for amateurs and age-group competitors, consists of 750 metres swimming, 20 kilometres cycling, and 5 kilometres running, with both individual and team events.
The Professional race will see world-class athletes, including Olympic and World Championship winners, competing over the same distances as the Sprint event.
This structure ensures participation across experience levels, from newcomers seeking a taste of triathlon to elite competitors vying for international honours.
Star-studded line-up
The championship boasts an impressive roster of athletes, including Gwen Jorgensen, Rio Olympic gold medallist from the United States, and Indonesia’s Valentina Riasova, Mixed Triathlon World Cup title holder. Spain will be represented by Noelia Juan and Alejandra Seguí, while Hana Maksimava, winner of the 2025 Aquathlon World Championship in Pontevedra, will also compete.
The event will feature strong participation from national teams of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the United Kingdom, the Philippines, Australia, South Africa, the United States, Russia, Jordan, and the Netherlands, alongside athletes from several other continents.
