DUBAI – In a major milestone for women’s sports worldwide, Dubai is set to host the Women’s Triathlon World Cup – Dubai 2025, the first global event exclusively dedicated to female triathletes.

Organised by the Dubai Sports Council, the championship will take place on Dubai Islands on December 7, 2025, under the auspices of the international governing body World Triathlon and in collaboration with the UAE Triathlon Federation.

This landmark event will be part of World Triathlon’s official annual agenda, underscoring Dubai’s growing prominence as a host of elite international competitions and its commitment to gender inclusion in sports.

Competition categories

The Women’s Triathlon World Cup – Dubai 2025 will feature the three traditional triathlon disciplines – swimming, cycling and running – across three race formats: Professional, Sprint, and Super Sprint.

  • Professional: 750m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run
  • Sprint (Amateurs): 750m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run
  • Super Sprint (Age Groups and Beginners): 400m swim, 10km cycle, 2.5km run

The championship will also include a team category, allowing three female athletes to participate collectively, each competing in a different discipline within the Sprint and Super Sprint divisions.

Strategic vision

This pioneering initiative reflects Dubai’s strategic commitment to empowering women and expanding their participation in international sporting events. The Dubai Sports Council continues to work towards positioning Dubai as a world-leading sports destination, while fostering a culture of inclusivity and athletic excellence.

Through this event, Dubai aims to inspire more women to pursue competitive sports, offering them a supportive global platform to test their endurance, skill and resilience.

Global endorsement

World Triathlon, formerly known as the International Triathlon Union (ITU), expressed pride in adding the Dubai event to its official calendar, describing it as a project of “strategic importance” that will open new horizons for women’s triathlon worldwide.

World Triathlon President Antonio Fernandez Arimany, who assumed office in October last year, lauded Dubai’s forward-thinking approach in developing women’s sports. “We commend Dubai’s leading role in supporting and promoting women’s participation in sports, and we are honoured to collaborate with the Dubai Sports Council in organising this first-ever Women’s Triathlon World Cup,” Arimany stated.

He added that the initiative symbolises the global body’s dedication to “creating real transformation in the sports landscape by empowering women and expanding their participation in endurance events.”

The Dubai Sports Council has announced that registration is now open for all categories. Women of all nationalities, aged 18 and above, residing both within and outside the UAE, are invited to participate. Registration will remain open until December 3, 2025, via the official website.
