New service supports business, tourism and family travel demand
DUBAI – Sharjah Airport has expanded its airline network with the addition of Indian carrier SpiceJet, introducing a new scheduled service between Ahmedabad and Sharjah International Airport.
The move further strengthens air connectivity between the UAE and India and adds capacity on one of the airport’s most important travel corridors. Officials say the new route supports rising demand across business, tourism, and family travel segments.

According to Sharjah Airport Authority, flights began operating on Thursday, 5 February, with five services per week using Boeing 737 aircraft. The schedule is designed to provide travellers with greater flexibility and more direct options between Gujarat and the UAE. The new link also increases seat availability on India routes, which continue to record strong passenger volumes.
Sharjah-Ahmedabad route
The Ahmedabad addition forms part of Sharjah Airport’s wider strategy to grow its international destination map and attract more foreign carriers, particularly from high growth markets such as India. India remains one of the airport’s largest source markets for both inbound and outbound passengers, supported by strong labour, trade, and tourism flows.
Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, welcomed the launch and described the new service as part of ongoing efforts to widen travel options and improve overall passenger experience. He said the authority continues to enhance operational efficiency and expand smart services across the airport to ensure smooth procedures and faster passenger movement as traffic increases.
He added that the authority is focused on building long term strategic partnerships with airlines to support network growth and open new areas of cooperation. The objective, he noted, is to reinforce Sharjah Airport’s position as a leading regional hub centred on service quality, operational performance, and integrated passenger services.
Sharjah Airport’s network
The SpiceJet launch comes amid broader network expansion at Sharjah Airport. Recently added destinations include Krabi, Munich, Prague, Warsaw Modlin, Vienna, Addis Ababa, and Sochi. Direct flights to London are also scheduled to begin in March 2026, further widening European access from Sharjah.
SpiceJet said the Ahmedabad–Sharjah route strengthens its international footprint and responds to sustained UAE travel demand from Indian cities. Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer at SpiceJet, said Sharjah remains a key destination for Indian travellers travelling for employment, tourism, and family visits. He said the airline expects the service to provide a dependable and convenient option while supporting its regional growth plans.
Passenger demand
During 2025, Sharjah Airport expanded its network to more than 100 global destinations and added four new international airlines to its portfolio. The airport also introduced additional operational upgrades aimed at faster passenger processing and shorter waiting times across key touchpoints.
Sharjah Airport Authority said it will continue working with airline partners to develop new routes and frequencies while maintaining efficient and seamless passenger handling across terminals.
