DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched quick wins to improve traffic flow from Ras Al Khor towards Al Meydan Street Interchange.

The development includes widening the right-turn lane from two to three lanes.

This upgrade is scheduled for completion on 10 August and is set to significantly ease vehicle movement across several key areas of Dubai.

What’s changing?

The upgrade specifically targets traffic moving from Ras Al Khor towards Al Meydan Street Interchange. By adding an additional lane, the vehicle capacity at the junction will rise from 1,800 to 2,700 vehicles per hour – a 50% increase. This change is expected to ease congestion and reduce waiting time during peak traffic hours.

The enhanced corridor will improve the mobility experience for drivers heading towards Business Bay, Al Quoz, Al Safa, Ghadeer Al Tair, and other major developments in the vicinity.

How will it help?

The project aims to enhance the flow between Ras Al Khor Industrial Area and Nad Al Sheba, and support smoother movement for vehicles bound for Al Meydan Street and surrounding districts. This is in line with the RTA’s efforts to optimise the road infrastructure in response to Dubai’s rapid urban expansion and rising population.

The initiative also supports broader goals of improving road safety, operational efficiency, and reducing overall travel times.

The roads selected for improvements are determined through an integrated system combining four key inputs: traffic studies, data from the control centre, feedback from the public, and real-time field monitoring conducted by RTA’s teams.

These upgrades fall under RTA’s strategic plan to continually update and enhance Dubai’s transport network, reinforcing the city’s position as a global hub for seamless mobility.
