Power banks banned from use on Emirates flights

From 1 October 2025, Emirates will ban the use of all power banks onboard its flights as part of new safety regulations aimed at reducing lithium battery-related risks.

Passengers may still carry one power bank under 100 Wh, with clear capacity labelling, but it cannot be used to charge devices or be charged during the flight.

Power banks must be stored under the seat or in the seat pocket and remain prohibited in checked baggage.

The changes follow a safety review highlighting the dangers of thermal runaway — an overheating reaction in lithium batteries that can cause fires, explosions, or toxic gas release.
