New summer upgrades to ease traffic in 40 areas across Dubai
Upgrades cover streets, schools, and growing residential and industrial zones
DUBAI’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a comprehensive traffic enhancement programme across 40 key sites in the city, set for completion during the summer of 2025.
Spanning June to September, the initiative includes upgrades across 22 major streets, nine school zones, more than five development areas, and several internal roads in districts such as Tolerance, Al Khawaneej 2, and Nad Al Sheba.
Timed to coincide with the school break, the works are designed to avoid peak congestion periods while maintaining the highest safety standards. The programme is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to boost infrastructure, streamline traffic flow, and meet the city’s urban growth needs.
Which areas benefit?
Among the targeted locations are major arterial roads and intersections including Jumeirah Village Circle leading to Hessa Street, Ras Al Khor Road, Al Thanya Street, and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street. Further improvements are scheduled for Al Meydan Street, Al Sa’ada Street, Al Asayel Street, and the junction of Al Wasl Street with Al Manara Street.
In parallel, pedestrian access and road safety measures will be intensified across school zones. These include enhancements at Al Warqa 1 school complex and the creation of a new bus entrance at GEMS School in Al Warqa 3. Access points around The English College in Al Safa 1 on Sheikh Zayed Road will be widened, while a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing is being installed on Al Seedaf Street in Al Barsha 1.
What about new developments?
To cater to Dubai’s fast-expanding residential and labour zones, RTA is implementing upgrades in five high-priority development areas. Notable projects include a new direct access road to Al Muhaisnah labour camps from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and improvements to Al Mustaqbal Street in Brookfield for better community connectivity.
Infrastructure will also be enhanced at Nad Al Hamar junction near Lootah Mosque and along the route connecting Al Khail Road with Al Asayel Street via Al Marabea' Street. In Oud Al Muteena 1, parking facilities will be expanded to serve the Zayed Educational Complex.
How are local roads changing?
Internal roadworks are being carried out in Al Warqa, Tolerance District, Al Khawaneej 2, Nad Al Sheba, and Jebel Ali Industrial 1. As part of wider safety efforts, new pedestrian walkways will be constructed in Al Quoz Creative Zone to enhance walkability for residents and visitors alike.
