UAE embassy, community leaders congratulate Ashfaq Ahmed for career achievements
DUBAI – Veteran Pakistani journalist Ashfaq Ahmed has been appointed Managing Editor of Gulf News, one of the UAE’s leading newspapers, following a 27-year career with the publication.
Ahmed’s appointment was welcomed by the Pakistan Embassy in the UAE, which congratulated him on his new role and highlighted his contribution to journalism and the Pakistani community abroad.
The embassy emphasised that Ahmed’s promotion reflects the strong presence and contribution of Pakistani media professionals in the Gulf. It also noted that such recognition strengthens the visibility of Pakistanis in international media and highlights their role in fostering cultural and professional ties between the UAE and Pakistan.
The announcement has also drawn praise from the wider media community, including seasoned journalist Sohail Warraich, who described Ahmed’s promotion as a landmark achievement for Pakistani journalists working internationally.
Members of the Pakistani expatriate community also celebrated the milestone, recognising Ahmed as a role model for professionalism, integrity, and career progression.

Ashfaq Ahmed began his career at Gulf News as a reporter and steadily rose through the ranks to Senior Assistant Editor before taking on the Managing Editor position. His decades-long career has been marked by commitment to accurate reporting, editorial leadership, and engagement with both the journalistic community and the Pakistani diaspora in the UAE.
Ahmed was recently recognised during Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day celebrations at Expo City Dubai, where Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, presented him with the Jashan-e-Azadi Award.
The event drew over 60,000 attendees, including diplomats, officials, and community leaders.
