RTA expands Dubai e-bike delivery service to 11 areas
Expansion supports cleaner deliveries and stronger road safety standards
DUBAI – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has expanded its e-bike delivery service to seven new areas across Dubai, extending a programme that began as a pilot in February.
The latest rollout brings the total number of covered zones to 11, as Dubai strengthens its focus on safer and more sustainable last-mile deliveries.
The move forms part of wider efforts to regulate the rapidly growing delivery sector and improve operational standards.
New locations
The newly covered areas are Al Twar 1, Al Twar 2, Al Qusais 1, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, Dubai Media City, Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) and Dubai Marina. They join the four original pilot locations: Al Karama, Al Hamriya, Umm Hurair and Al Mankhool.
RTA said the expansion supports Dubai’s Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy 2030 and the First and Last-Mile Strategy. The initiative is designed to promote sustainable deliveries, improve road safety, reduce operating costs and support faster, more efficient services in line with international best practices.
The newly selected areas were assessed according to several factors, including dedicated cycling infrastructure, neighbourhood characteristics, proximity to restaurants and retail outlets, business demand and the existing use of bicycles and other soft mobility options.
Trial results
The wider rollout is being implemented with private-sector delivery operators under agreements covering operating procedures, service requirements and public safety standards.
During the pilot, customer satisfaction reached around 99 percent, while more than 90 percent of delivery riders reported satisfaction with the service. RTA also worked with its partners to address operational challenges identified during the trial before expanding the programme.
The authority has introduced a broader regulatory framework covering delivery operations, licensing, quality control, monitoring and compliance. The measures are intended to strengthen governance and safety standards as delivery demand and the number of delivery bikes on Dubai’s roads continue to grow.
