India announces to restart IPL 2025 after week-long suspension
Final match now scheduled for June 3
DUBAI: India’s premier cricket tournament, the Indian Premier League (IPL), is set to resume on 17 May following a week-long suspension due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
The league was halted after 58 matches, including an abandoned clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, as hostilities flared near the border regions. The suspension was lifted after a ceasefire was agreed, paving the way for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to announce a revised schedule.
The tournament will restart with Royal Challengers Bengaluru facing Kolkata Knight Riders at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Originally slated to conclude on 25 May, the league will now wrap up on 3 June, with a total of 17 matches to be played, including four playoff fixtures.

IPL 2025: Revised venues
In light of security and logistical concerns, the remaining matches will take place across six cities: Bengaluru, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The BCCI confirmed that Punjab Kings, whose home base was in Chandigarh and Dharamsala, will complete their remaining fixtures in Jaipur. Dharamsala’s match was disrupted last week, which the BCCI attributed to a stadium power failure.
The revised schedule includes two double-headers on Sundays. The final match of the league phase is scheduled for 27 May between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The venue details for the playoff stage are yet to be announced.
IPL 2025: Playoff line-up
The playoffs will begin with Qualifier 1 on 29 May, followed by the Eliminator on 30 May and Qualifier 2 on 1 June. The grand finale is set for 3 June. With seven teams still in the hunt for a playoff spot, the concluding phase of the season promises high-octane action.
The BCCI thanked all stakeholders and security agencies for their coordination and also saluted the Indian armed forces for their efforts in maintaining national security, which enabled cricket’s safe return.
