ABU DHABI – Etihad Airways has concluded an extraordinary week of global growth with the successful launch of four new international routes – Sumatra, Phnom Penh, Addis Ababa and Krabi – in just seven days.

The inaugural flights to all four destinations were completely sold out, underscoring the strong passenger demand and momentum behind the airline’s ambitious expansion strategy.

The national carrier of the United Arab Emirates has now reached 11 new destinations this year alone, with Krabi marking the latest addition. The achievement brings Etihad’s total network to 86 destinations worldwide, further strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as a key global hub for business and leisure travel. The airline plans to add eight more destinations over the next two months, pushing its international footprint even further.

Rapid global growth

This remarkable expansion week follows a year of dynamic network development. Over the past 12 months, Etihad has unveiled 31 new destinations, with additional routes to Kabul, Damascus, Palma de Mallorca and Zanzibar confirmed to begin operating through 2025 and early 2026.

“This was an extraordinary week for Etihad as we bring four vibrant new cities onto our global map,” said Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways. “By launching four new routes in four different countries in just one week, we’re showing how Etihad is becoming more agile, more ambitious, and more accessible.”

Neves added that the airline’s strategic investments in modern aircraft such as the Airbus A321LR are fuelling its accelerated expansion plans. Etihad aims to serve more than 125 destinations by 2030, broadening its reach and enhancing its role as a bridge between continents.

Advanced fleet innovation

The Airbus A321LR, Etihad’s newest aircraft type, is central to this growth story. It allows the airline to serve emerging and underserved markets efficiently, providing the perfect blend of capacity, range, and passenger comfort. The aircraft operates the three new Southeast Asian routes – Sumatra, Phnom Penh and Krabi – offering Etihad’s hallmark hospitality and premium experience.

The A321LR debuts Etihad’s first-ever narrowbody First Suites, private cabins with sliding doors, fully-flat beds and bespoke finishes typically reserved for long-haul widebody aircraft. Passengers in these suites can enjoy the First Deluxe service, which includes a personal Concierge, Etihad Global Chauffeur, and Meet and Assist benefits for an elevated journey experience.

Extraordinary Challenge

Etihad has also launched an innovative reward campaign – the Extraordinary Challenge – open to all Etihad Guest members. Travellers can earn up to five million Etihad Guest Miles by visiting five, ten or fifteen of the airline’s new destinations before 25 May 2026.

The challenge invites participants to register at etihad.com/extraordinary, track their progress, and share their journeys on social media using the hashtag #EYextraordinarymiles. Both new and existing Etihad Guest members are eligible, reflecting the airline’s drive to inspire more travellers to experience its expanding network.
