18 Dubai residential areas transformed as RTA road works slash journeys by 40pc
New infrastructure improvements include parking, pavements, lighting and traffic upgrades
DUBAI – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a major road connections project spanning 18 residential areas across in Dubai.
The development covers a total length of 13 kilometres and forms part of ongoing efforts to support rapid urban expansion.
The project also introduced a series of traffic improvements aimed at enhancing mobility, safety, and infrastructure quality across key neighbourhoods.
Road links
The project focused on constructing and upgrading road connections to improve access within and between 18 residential communities. These works included paving previously unpaved stretches, creating smoother links to main roads, and strengthening overall network efficiency.
Alongside the 13km stretch of new and improved roads, the initiative incorporated roadside parking bays, pedestrian pavements, and upgraded street lighting to support safer and more convenient movement for residents and visitors.
Traffic gains
According to the Roads and Transport Authority, the enhancements have significantly improved traffic flow and reduced travel times by up to 40 percent in the affected areas. The improvements have eased congestion points and facilitated smoother entry and exit routes for vehicles in residential districts.
Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at RTA, said the initiative has strengthened connectivity and provided road users with a safer and more efficient driving experience, adding that the works were implemented through a phased rollout across the selected communities.
Community areas
The upgraded network spans 18 neighbourhoods, including Al Khawaneej 1, Al Barsha South 1, Nad Shamma, Jumeirah 1, Za’abeel 1, Al Rashidiya, Muhaisnah 1, Al Barsha 1, Al Hudaiba, Al Quoz 1, Al Quoz 3, Al Satwa, Al Twar 1, Mirdif, Umm Ramool, Umm Suqeim 1, Al Mizhar 1, and Al Mizhar 2.
The project also aligns with broader efforts to meet the demands of population growth and continuous urban development across Dubai, ensuring higher standards of infrastructure and mobility across residential zones.
