World’s first AI English news channel launched by Discover Pakistan
Over 1,500 facial movements give AI anchors realistic on-screen presence
LAHORE/DUBAI – Discover Pakistan, the country’s leading infotainment television network and a pioneer in media innovation, has announced the launch of the world’s first fully AI-powered English news channel.
The new venture, named Pakistan Today English News, features AI-generated anchors, reporters, analysts, programme hosts, and an entirely AI-based production system. It aims to deliver accurate, unbiased, and round-the-clock news coverage to audiences worldwide in English, with plans to introduce live AI translations into more than 40 languages in the near future.
This milestone builds upon Discover Pakistan’s earlier breakthrough in AI integration. On 19 June 2023, the channel aired the world’s first AI television talk show, where CEO Dr Kaiser Rafiq appeared alongside his own AI avatar and three other AI characters. That broadcast marked the beginning of a bold experiment in transforming the way media is created and consumed.

The technological core of Pakistan Today English News lies in its highly advanced avatars. Each is designed with more than 1,500 facial movements and sophisticated body gestures, enabling lifelike delivery of news. Advanced facial recognition, voice synthesis, deep learning, and natural language processing (NLP) systems allow the AI presenters to replicate human speech patterns, tone, expressions, and emotional inflections with exceptional precision.
Under the leadership of Dr Rafiq, AI project head Arooj Arif, and her colleague Haider Ali, a dedicated team worked for months to perfect the channel’s systems. Their combined efforts have produced avatars that look, move, and sound strikingly human, setting a new benchmark in AI-driven broadcasting.
How will it operate?
Pakistan Today English News will broadcast globally via multiple satellites and digital platforms, with its main studio and central control hub based in London, United Kingdom. From there, a worldwide reporting system will be managed, ensuring the channel’s ability to provide seamless coverage across time zones.
The commitment of the channel goes beyond technological novelty. At its core lies a focus on journalistic integrity and accuracy. The AI system is designed to pull information in real time from a wide range of vetted sources, filtering and summarising global developments at speed. Through continuous scanning and automated script generation, it produces news bulletins that prioritise factual accuracy and neutrality, free from human bias.
Vision behind Pakistan’s first AI channel
The channel’s creators have been clear that the aim is not to replace human journalists. Instead, the vision is to redefine their role by blending technology with traditional reporting. By taking over the repetitive and time-sensitive aspects of news delivery, the AI system allows human reporters and editors to dedicate more time to investigative journalism and in-depth analysis.
