Dubai skyline glows green and white in tribute at world’s tallest building
DUBAI’s skyline took on the colours of green and white today as the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, displayed the Pakistani flag to mark the 78th anniversary of Pakistan’s Independence Day.
The striking display was visible across the city, reflecting the close ties between the UAE and Pakistan and the pride of the Pakistani expatriate community.

The celebrations began earlier in the day with flag-hoisting ceremonies in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
At the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai, Consul General Hussain Muhammad welcomed community members, congratulating them on the occasion and encouraging their continued role in supporting the prosperity of both nations.
In Abu Dhabi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, led the national day ceremony, highlighting the guiding principles of Unity, Faith, and Discipline while acknowledging the Dh29 billion remitted by the community last year. He also announced a new online tracking system for passports and NICOP services.
Festivities in Dubai featured patriotic performances by students from the Pakistan Education Academy and a quiz competition, while Abu Dhabi’s event celebrated recent educational achievements, including two community schools earning a “Good” rating for the first time in 20 years. Both ceremonies were attended by hundreds of expatriates and families.
Ambassador Tirmizi noted that the August 10 event at Dubai Expo City attracted around 60,000 attendees, making it the largest Pakistan Independence Day gathering anywhere in the world. Organised by Emirates Loves Pakistan and Pakistan Association Dubai, the celebration set a record for overseas national day events.
