UAE beats China to lift Outdoor Badminton World Cup crown

SHARJAH – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been crowned champions of the Outdoor Badminton World Cup after securing a 60-54 victory over China in the National Teams Relay Race final, staged on Khorfakkan Beach.
The decisive encounter capped a multi-day championship that brought international competition to Sharjah’s eastern coast, drawing players and spectators from across continents.
The title was presented by Sheikh Saeed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Chief of the Sharjah Ruler’s Office in Khorfakkan.
The championship was held under the patronage of Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, underscoring official support for the growing profile of outdoor badminton in the region.
Decisive final
The final delivered a high-tempo contest, with the UAE national team maintaining composure to edge past China in a closely fought relay race.
The 60-54 scoreline reflected the intensity of the matchup, as both sides exchanged leads before the hosts sealed the win on home sand.
Triples honours
Beyond the team relay, individual honours were also decided. Brazil captured the men’s triples title, showcasing consistency across matches, while China claimed the women’s triples crown, reinforcing its strength in the discipline. The results highlighted the competitive balance across categories and nations.
Global turnout
The championship featured 96 players representing 12 countries from different continents, contributing to a diverse field and a strong competitive standard.
The closing ceremony included the presentation of the tournament shield, along with honours recognising organisers, partners and supporting entities. The event concluded with a strong spectator turnout along the beachfront venue, reflecting growing public interest in outdoor badminton.
