UAE-Pakistan remittances cross $1 billion as Dubai marks Family Remittances Day
Recognition awarded for efforts supporting financial flows home
DUBAI – The Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai, in collaboration with National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) UAE, marked the International Day of Family Remittances with a special ceremony celebrating the contribution of overseas Pakistanis to their homeland.
The event also highlighted a major milestone, with remittances from the UAE to Pakistan surpassing $1 billion during May 2026.
The achievement reflects the continued role of expatriate Pakistanis in supporting families back home and contributing to Pakistan’s economy through formal financial channels.
Key contribution
Addressing the gathering, Consul General Hussain Muhammad congratulated the Pakistani community in the UAE on the landmark achievement and praised their continued confidence in legal and formal remittance systems.
He noted that remittances represent much more than financial transactions, providing critical support to millions of households across Pakistan while also contributing to economic stability and growth. He also reiterated the Consulate’s support for outreach initiatives undertaken by NBP in cooperation with financial institutions, exchange houses, business councils and community organisations to encourage the use of formal remittance channels.
Representing NBP UAE, Rashid-ul-Islam and Asad Malik thanked the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai for its continued support and acknowledged the Pakistani community’s trust in regulated banking and remittance services.
Pakistani community in UAE
During the ceremony, the Consul General presented appreciation certificates to Rashid-ul-Islam and Asad Malik in recognition of their efforts to promote formal remittance channels among overseas Pakistanis.
The event was attended by several prominent members of the Pakistani community, including Muhammad Shabbir Merchant, Chairman of Pakistan Business Council Dubai; Saleem Akhtar, Vice President of Pakistan Business Council Sharjah; Khalid Hussain Chaudhry, President of Pakistan Social Centre Sharjah; Majid Rafiq, Country Manager of Pakistan International Airlines UAE; and Mohammad Shoaib, Managing Director of Cake & Bakes.
Officials from the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai were also present at the gathering, which concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony commemorating the International Day of Family Remittances and the record remittance milestone.
