Xinjiang opens direct cargo air link to Dubai for fresh produce
Over 18 tonnes of Xinjiang fruits reach Dubai on maiden flight in just six hours
DUBAI – Xinjiang has inaugurated an international air cargo route carrying fruits and vegetables directly from Urumqi to Dubai, Xinhua reported.
The service, launched on Saturday, aims to boost the region’s agricultural exports with faster delivery times and improved freshness.
Maiden flight details
The first cargo flight transported more than 18 tonnes of produce, including melons, tomato products, grapes and dried apples.
Previously, shipments to the Middle East relied on sea, land and rail transport, often resulting in lengthy transit and reduced freshness, according to Zhu Shiqiang, chairman of Xinjiang Fruit Industry Group.
Faster global access
“With the official launch of the route, fruits and vegetables from Xinjiang can now reach Dubai directly in about six hours,” Zhu said. He added that overseas demand for Xinjiang produce remains strong, with considerable profit potential through air transport.
Expanding exports
So far, Xinjiang’s agricultural products have been exported to more than 10 countries and regions, including Thailand, Kazakhstan and Russia. Plans are under way to open additional routes to Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea and Europe.
