Biggest sky events coming to UAE this year
The UAE skies are set to dazzle in 2025 with a full line-up of celestial events, ranging from glowing supermoons to powerful meteor showers and rare planetary oppositions. Astronomy enthusiasts will have multiple opportunities to look up and experience some of the year’s most spectacular natural shows.
Saturn will take centre stage on 21 September when it reaches opposition, shining brighter than usual with its famous rings clearly visible. Later in the year, 7 December brings Jupiter’s opposition, offering skywatchers their closest view of the gas giant in 2025.
Supermoons will also dominate the night sky, beginning with the Hunter’s Moon on 7 October, followed by the Beaver Supermoon on 5 November and the Cold Moon on 4 December. Each will appear larger and more luminous, easily admired without telescopes.
Meteor showers add to the spectacle, starting with the Orionids on 21–22 October, capable of producing up to 20 meteors per hour. The Leonids arrive on 17–18 November, while the Geminids peak on 13–14 December, delivering as many as 120 meteors per hour in vivid colours.
Looking further ahead, astronomy lovers are already anticipating a rare solar eclipse in August 2027, expected to be visible across the region and promising a once-in-a-lifetime view.
