DUBAI – Defending champions India have unveiled a formidable 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE, with pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah making a much-awaited return after more than a year.
Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side, while Shubman Gill has been named vice-captain in a squad that blends established names with exciting young talent.

Bumrah returns
The biggest highlight of the announcement is Bumrah’s comeback to India’s T20I setup. Having last featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup, the pacer missed subsequent tournaments due to injury and rest. His presence strengthens India’s bowling attack alongside Arshdeep Singh and youngster Harshit Rana. Spin duties will be shouldered by Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav, who returns to the format after last year’s World Cup final.
Batting strength
The batting unit carries both stability and firepower. Alongside captain Yadav, the squad features Gill, who is expected to slot in at No. 3. Youngsters Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh have all been rewarded for consistent performances over the past year. Sanju Samson, who has forged a promising partnership with Abhishek, has been named as first-choice wicketkeeper, with Jitesh Sharma providing cover.
All-rounder options
Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel add balance with their dual roles, while Shivam Dube further bolsters the middle order. The selectors have overlooked several names including Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Yashasvi Jaiswal and teenage prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi, underlining their intent to back the current core.
India in Asia Cup 2025
India will open their campaign against hosts UAE in Dubai on 10 September, before facing arch-rivals Pakistan on 14 September and Oman on 19 September.
The Super Four stage and final are scheduled across Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
