Dubai’s EV Green Charger network reaches 1,860 points as demand accelerates
Over 55,200 MWh supplied since initiative launched in 2014
DUBAI has significantly expanded its electric vehicle charging infrastructure, with the EV Green Charger network now exceeding 1,860 charging points across the emirate.
The growth reflects rising demand for electric mobility and ongoing efforts to strengthen sustainable transport infrastructure in line with national and local climate strategies. The announcement was made by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
The charging points include stations licensed by DEWA in collaboration with both government bodies and private sector partners. The expansion comes as Dubai continues to position itself as a future-ready city, focused on clean energy adoption, improved air quality, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Since its launch in 2014, the EV Green Charger initiative has become a central pillar of the emirate’s green mobility framework.
Dubai network growth
By mid-January 2026, the EV Green Charger initiative had enrolled approximately 23,600 registered users, highlighting the steady increase in electric vehicle ownership across Dubai. DEWA has supplied more than 55,200 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity through the network since its inception. According to DEWA figures, this volume of electricity is sufficient to power over 276 million kilometres of electric vehicle travel, underlining the initiative’s growing environmental impact.
The expanding network supports a wide range of users, including residents, businesses, and visitors, offering charging access across residential areas, commercial districts, and key transport corridors. The steady rollout of new charging points aims to ensure that infrastructure keeps pace with the increasing number of electric vehicles on Dubai’s roads.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said the expansion aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to consolidate the emirate’s leadership in the transition to a green economy and sustainable mobility. He noted that strengthening green mobility infrastructure remains a priority as Dubai works to become one of the world’s most advanced and future-ready cities.
EV Green Charger initiative
The EV Green Charger initiative directly supports the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy and the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030. Both frameworks encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly transport solutions to help meet long-term sustainability targets. The focus includes reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, and promoting cleaner alternatives to conventional fuel-powered vehicles.
Al Tayer said DEWA continues to enhance charging infrastructure to meet the needs of the growing electric vehicle community, while ensuring a seamless and efficient charging experience. He added that expanding the availability of charging points not only supports residents but also enhances Dubai’s appeal as a global destination to live, work, and visit.
The initiative also reflects broader efforts to integrate sustainability into daily life, with electric mobility playing an increasingly visible role in the emirate’s transport ecosystem. The presence of charging stations across a wide geographic area is intended to reduce range anxiety and encourage more motorists to transition to electric vehicles.
Charging access
DEWA currently provides four types of chargers through the EV Green Charger network: ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers. This range allows users to select charging options based on location, time availability, and vehicle requirements. Ultra-fast and fast chargers are designed to minimise waiting times, while wall-box chargers support more convenient charging in residential or workplace settings.
Customers can locate charging stations using DEWA’s official website, the DEWA smart app, and 14 other integrated digital platforms. These tools offer real-time access to station locations and availability, making it easier for users to plan journeys and charging stops.
To use the service, customers can create a Green Charger account through DEWA’s website, smart app, or the interactive voice response service at its Customer Care Centre. Once a vehicle is registered, users can access charging stations within an hour. The service is also available through DEWA’s Guest Mode feature, allowing broader access for users who may not hold a registered account.
