Extra metro hour set to benefit late-night travellers
DUBAI: Commuters in Dubai can enjoy extra metro service hours this Sunday, July 20, as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) extends Dubai Metro timings to 1am the following day.
This special schedule is being introduced to accommodate high turnout at the Global Encounters Festival, set to begin the same evening at Dubai World Trade Centre.
Usually operating from 8am to midnight on Sundays, the Dubai Metro will now allow an extra hour of service across all lines. The RTA confirmed the change through its official social media accounts, advising residents and visitors to take advantage of the extended hours to avoid traffic congestion and limited parking availability in central areas.
Global Encounters Festival
The one-week Global Encounters Festival will launch on July 20 with an opening ceremony held across Sheikh Saeed and Sheikh Rashid Halls.
Organised as a global celebration for members of the Ismaili Muslim community, the festival will run through July 27 and include a diverse schedule of live music, athletic competitions, art showcases, and cultural performances.
In anticipation of large crowds, the RTA’s decision to modify the metro schedule aims to provide a smoother commute for thousands of attendees.

Looking ahead, the city’s public transport network continues to expand. The Blue Line – currently under construction – has already led to traffic diversions around Mirdif. Once completed, it will connect key neighbourhoods and further boost Dubai’s metro reach. Plans and station locations for the new route have been shared for public preview.
