ABU DHABI – Etihad Airways has marked a major milestone in its Japan operations with the arrival of its iconic Airbus A380 at Tokyo’s Narita International Airport.

The double-decker aircraft has officially begun daily services between Abu Dhabi and Tokyo, strengthening one of the airline’s key international routes. The introduction brings increased capacity and a refreshed premium travel experience, including the debut of The Residence, Etihad’s exclusive three-room suite in the sky, for passengers travelling to and from Japan.

The return of the A380 to the route reflects Etihad’s continued expansion of its premium offering, with the aircraft becoming the eighth A380 to rejoin the airline’s fleet. The aircraft features four cabin classes, allowing passengers to choose between Economy, Business, First, and the ultra-luxurious The Residence.

Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, said Tokyo remains an important destination for the airline and the introduction of the A380 responds to strong demand for premium connectivity between the UAE capital and Japan.

The increased capacity also allows more travellers from Japan to visit Abu Dhabi or connect onwards through Etihad’s global network. Passengers with longer stopovers can also benefit from the airline’s Abu Dhabi Stopover programme, which includes options such as complimentary hotel stays.

Etihad’s A380 has been designed to deliver a high-end experience throughout the aircraft. The First cabin features nine private spaces, each equipped with a leather lounge chair, a separate ottoman that converts into an 80-inch lie-flat bed, designer tableware, personal vanity units and access to an exclusive onboard shower room.

On the Upper Deck, Business Class passengers can enjoy 70 private studios designed for comfort and privacy during long-haul journeys. The Upper Deck also includes The Lobby, a dedicated lounge and bar area positioned between the First and Business cabins, offering passengers a social space above the clouds.

The Economy cabin features 415 smart seats designed to maximise comfort, including Etihad’s fixed-wing headrests and plush pillows. The cabin combines practical design with onboard hospitality to enhance the overall journey experience.

The Residence

At the top of Etihad’s A380 offering is The Residence, recognised as one of the most exclusive commercial aviation experiences. The private three-room suite accommodates up to two guests and includes a living room, separate bedroom and ensuite bathroom with a private shower.

Guests travelling in The Residence receive personalised service from a dedicated crew throughout the flight. The experience includes a specially curated dining journey, with an à la carte menu served on designer tableware.

The private suite also offers luxury touches such as breakfast in bed, the exclusive Residence Signature High Tea, and premium selections including champagne and caviar, creating a highly personalised experience at 40,000 feet.
