UAE-Japan travel: Etihad’s A380 to dawn in the Land of the Rising Sun
The Residence to offer unrivalled inflight experience for Tokyo-bound travellers
ABU DHABI – Etihad Airways has announced that its flagship A380 aircraft will begin operating between Zayed Abu Dhabi International and Narita International Airport in Tokyo from 16th June 2026.
The launch is timed to coincide with the peak summer travel period, offering travellers the world’s only three-room suite in the sky, The Residence, alongside premium cabin experiences and enhanced capacity. This marks the return of Etihad’s eighth A380 to service, strengthening the airline’s growing portfolio of superjumbo destinations.
Tokyo joins London, Paris, Toronto and Singapore on Etihad’s A380 network, signalling the airline’s expanding focus on high-demand global routes. The decision reflects increasing customer demand for travel to Japan, driven by both leisure and business sectors.
Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, said that the aircraft is particularly suited to the UAE–Japan route due to deep economic and cultural ties between the nations. Flights on this new service are now open for booking.
Inflight luxury
Passengers in First Class will experience the sophisticated First Apartments, a collection of nine private suites featuring designer tableware, spacious leather lounge chairs and an 80-inch lie-flat bed. Each suite boasts a personal vanity unit and exclusive access to the First-class shower room, adding further comfort to long-haul travel.
On the upper deck, Business Class guests can settle into one of 70 Business Studios, designed for privacy and productivity. The exclusive Lobby lounge, located between the First and Business cabins, offers a serviced bar area where guests can stretch, mingle or simply relax. Full Wi-Fi connectivity ensures that travellers can stay in touch for work or leisure throughout their journey.
Economy comfort
In Economy Class, the journey begins in a dedicated welcome area that sets the tone for a comfortable experience. The A380 offers 68 extra legroom seats, each providing an additional four inches of space, as well as 337 Economy Smart seats. These seats incorporate Etihad’s fixed-wing headrests and large pillows for added support, ensuring comfort on long flights.
Sky’s highest suite
At the pinnacle of inflight luxury is The Residence, Etihad’s signature three-room suite in the sky. Designed for up to two guests, it includes a private living room, bedroom and ensuite bathroom with shower. A dedicated team of cabin crew provides bespoke service, including à la carte fine dining, breakfast in bed and The Residence Signature High Tea featuring champagne, caviar and gourmet cuisine. The Residence experience aims to redefine premium long-haul travel, at 40,000 feet.
The introduction of the A380 to Tokyo is expected to boost inbound traffic to the UAE’s capital, catering to travellers arriving for both stopovers and extended stays.
