DUBAI – Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has marked Eid Al Fitr 2026 with a message of goodwill to fans across the globe, sharing festive greetings on social media as millions celebrate the end of Ramadan.
The forward, currently playing club football in Saudi Arabia, posted a heartfelt note wishing peace and happiness to his followers. His message comes at a time when he is also sidelined from international duty due to injury.
Taking to Instagram, Ronaldo wrote: “Eid Mubarak to all! I hope you have a very special day with your family and loved ones. Wishing you all peace and happiness.”
The post was accompanied by a photograph of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner dressed in traditional Saudi attire, reflecting his life in the Kingdom and his connection with the region’s culture.

Eid Al Fitr, which marks the conclusion of Ramadan, is being observed across the Gulf on Friday following the sighting of the crescent moon that signals the beginning of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar. The occasion is typically characterised by communal prayers, family gatherings and acts of charity, as well as messages of unity and compassion shared across communities.
This year’s observance comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with ongoing conflict affecting parts of the region. Despite the backdrop, public figures and institutions have continued to share messages centred on peace and togetherness during the festive period.
Injury setback
Away from the celebrations, Ronaldo remains out of action with a hamstring injury that has ruled him out of Portugal’s upcoming international fixtures. The 41-year-old has not featured since February 28, when he was forced off during Saudi Pro League match Al Nassr vs Al Fayha February 2026, where his side secured a 3-1 victory.
Portugal head coach Roberto Martínez confirmed the squad for the upcoming friendlies without including the veteran forward, in line with expectations following his injury. The national side is scheduled to face Mexico in Mexico City on March 28 before taking on the United States in Atlanta on April 1 as part of preparations for the upcoming global tournament.
Ronaldo, Portugal’s all-time leading scorer, continues to hold the record for the most goals in men’s international football, having netted 143 times for his country. His absence will be closely monitored as the team builds towards the World Cup, set to begin in June in North America.
