Sharjah Ruler opens redesigned Al Majarrah Park
New recreational facilities designed to encourage fitness, interaction and community engagement
SHARJAH – His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has inaugurated the redesigned Al Majarrah Park, marking its transformation under the supervision of Sharjah Art Foundation.
The park, located in the Al Majarrah area, has been reimagined as a cultural and artistic public space reflecting the emirate’s vision of integrating art into everyday life.
The inauguration highlighted the emirate’s continued focus on developing community-centric environments that combine recreation, culture and heritage. Senior officials and representatives from various Sharjah departments attended the opening ceremony.
Al Majarrah Park
During the visit, the Ruler of Sharjah was received by senior figures including Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi and Sheikha Nawar Al Qasimi, alongside officials from public works, tourism and protocol departments. He toured the park’s artistic installations, which draw inspiration from the memories and possessions of Sharjah residents. These elements aim to reflect community identity and transform public space into a living cultural narrative. The design integrates art with open-air environments, reinforcing the connection between heritage and contemporary expression.
The redesigned park features a range of recreational and sporting facilities designed to serve residents of all ages. These include a running track, climbing nets, football and basketball courts, and skating areas. The spaces are intended to promote physical activity while encouraging social interaction within a safe and inclusive environment. The park also provides designated gathering areas for cultural and community events, strengthening its role as a daily-use public destination.
Public art
Al Majarrah Park forms part of a broader series of permanent public art initiatives developed by Sharjah Art Foundation.
The foundation’s portfolio includes well-known installations such as Rain Room, the cricket ground at Al Mureijah Square, and “Untitled: Excavation” at Al Hamriyah Studios. These projects underline Sharjah’s long-term strategy to embed art within public infrastructure.
The park also incorporates landscaped green areas and water features, enhancing its environmental appeal while supporting wellbeing and leisure activities for the community.
