flydubai reconnects UAE and Syria after 12 years with Damascus flights
Flights begin June 1, ahead of Eid Al Adha travel rush
DUBAI-based airline flydubai will resume direct daily flights to Damascus from June 1, marking its return to the Syrian capital after a 12-year suspension.
The service will operate from Terminal 2 at Dubai International Airport (DXB) to Damascus International Airport (DAM), following a green light from the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority in April.
Damascus was one of flydubai’s earliest routes, with operations beginning in June 2009. However, flights were halted in 2012 due to the onset of the Syrian civil war. The reintroduction of this route makes flydubai the first UAE national carrier to restart operations to Syria.
Route details
Flight FZ 115 is scheduled to depart Dubai daily at 6:30AM and arrive in Damascus at 8:45AM local time. The return flight, FZ 116, will depart Damascus at 10:00am, landing back in Dubai at 2:20PM. Passengers can book both economy and business class seats.
The relaunch comes just ahead of the Eid Al Adha holiday, positioning flydubai to capture peak summer traffic. The carrier has coordinated closely with local and international aviation authorities to ensure all operational and safety standards are met.
Strategic expansion
“Damascus holds a special cultural and historical significance within the region,” said Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai. “We are excited to serve the city again with a direct daily service, highlighting our commitment to supporting the UAE’s efforts to foster regional connectivity.”
Jeyhun Efendi, Divisional Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations and E-commerce at flydubai, noted the move will offer passengers from across flydubai’s network greater flexibility and access to the Syrian market.
The renewed UAE-Syria air connection follows high-level diplomatic engagement earlier this year, including President Ahmad Al Shara’s landmark visit to the Emirates in April.
