American star Patrick Reed triumphs at 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic
Four-shot win seals first Rolex Series success
DUBAI – Patrick Reed produced a measured and assured final-round display to win the 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic, claiming the Dallah Trophy with a four-shot margin at Emirates Golf Club.
Presented by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the trophy capped a week in which the American showed patience and control on a demanding Majlis Course, finishing at 14 under par. The victory marked Reed’s fourth DP World Tour title and his first Rolex Series triumph in Dubai.
Starting the final round with a four-shot overnight lead, Reed faced early pressure as scoring proved difficult on the front nine. The 35-year-old largely relied on par saves to protect his advantage, carding eight pars alongside a single dropped shot. While his lead was briefly reduced, Reed avoided risk and stayed committed to fairways and greens, allowing him to regain momentum when the back nine opened up.
Early pressure
Spain’s David Puig emerged as the main challenger as conditions tested the field. The first notable swing came at the par-three fourth, where Puig salvaged a bogey from a plugged lie, while Reed three-putted after finding the green, missing the chance to stretch his lead. Reed continued to trade pars as Puig gradually closed the gap, taking advantage of birdie opportunities as the final group approached the turn.
Puig collected his first birdie of the day at the eighth before rolling in another at the ninth, trimming Reed’s lead to two shots at 11 under par. Reed, still searching for rhythm with the putter, reached the turn determined to steady himself rather than chase birdies. His approach reflected a clear strategy of damage limitation on a course that offered few easy chances.
Turning point
Momentum briefly swung further when both players reached the par-five tenth. Reed found the green in two but watched as Puig completed a hat-trick of birdies, narrowing the gap to one shot. The response was immediate. Reed converted a short birdie putt of his own to return to 14 under, re-establishing a cushion that proved crucial in the closing stages.
At the par-three 11th, both players missed the green. Reed failed to save par from five feet, opening the door again, but Puig was unable to capitalise, missing his own par attempt from close range. The missed opportunity proved costly as the contest swung decisively back in Reed’s favour two holes later.
Crucial stretch
Reed’s birdie at the par-four 13th came at a pivotal moment. As the American moved to one under par for the round, Puig bogeyed the same hole, restoring a four-shot advantage with five holes to play. Reed’s control off the tee and into the greens became increasingly evident, while Puig’s margin for error all but disappeared.
Any remaining hopes of a late challenge faded at the 15th, where Puig dropped another shot. Reed, content to avoid mistakes, opened a five-shot lead with three holes remaining. From there, he closed out the tournament with five consecutive pars, never allowing the outcome to come back into doubt.
Reed signed for a final-round total that secured his place as the sixth American winner of the Dallah Trophy. The result also ended his wait for a DP World Tour victory since the 2020 WGC-Mexico Championship and lifted him to World Number 44.
Speaking after the round, Reed admitted the challenge was greater than anticipated. He pointed to the importance of patience and credited his caddie, Kessler Karain, for reinforcing the need to stay composed once the lead was cut. The decisive birdie at the 13th, combined with Puig’s dropped shot, proved the defining sequence of the afternoon.
Chasing pack
Behind the winner, Andy Sullivan recovered from a difficult front nine to finish strongly with back-to-back birdies, signing for a one-under-par 71 to take solo second place at ten under. Frenchman Julien Guerrier produced an impressive closing round featuring an eagle, two birdies and a bogey to secure third place at nine under, his best finish in a Rolex Series event.
Denmark’s Nicolai Højgaard, Italy’s Francesco Molinari and Race to Dubai Rankings delivered by DP World leader Jayden Schaper finished a further shot back. Portugal’s Ricardo Gouveia and England’s Marcus Armitage also featured in the cluster at seven under par, alongside Puig, whose week ended with a two-shot penalty for grounding a club in a bunker at the final hole.
Trophy ceremony
Reed lifted the famous Dallah Trophy after it was presented by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
The ceremony was attended by senior figures from across Dubai’s sporting, business and government sectors, including His Excellency Mohammed Al Shaibani, Saeed Mohammed Hareb, General Abdullah Al Hashmi and Dr Pawan Munjal of Hero MotoCorp. Executives from Emirates Global Aluminium, Seddiqi Holding, Emirates NBD, DP World GCC and Dubai Golf were also present, underlining the tournament’s standing on the global golfing calendar.
Amateur honours
South African Christiaan Maas claimed the Emirates Golf Federation’s Leading Amateur award, recognising his standout performance over the week. The focus on emerging talent extended beyond the main championship, with the Junior Dubai Desert Classic taking place in the build-up to the tournament. The fourth edition of the junior event, staged for the second consecutive year with World Amateur Golf Ranking points on offer, was won by Denmark’s Christian Hansen after a dramatic play-off on the Majlis Course.
Running alongside the junior competition was the second Creators Dubai Desert Classic, expanded into a weekend-long event featuring 16 prominent social media sports creators. Canadian Mac Boucher won the gross title at seven over par, while England’s Temps secured the net competition. Both earned places in the Hero Dubai Desert Classic Pro-Am, joining DP World Tour professionals on the course.
Beyond fairways
Away from competitive play, Tournament Town served as the hub of off-course activity throughout the week. The family-focused area hosted entertainment from morning until night, with the expanded Kids Zone doubling in size for 2026. Attractions included bungee trampolines, soft-play areas, virtual reality corners and the Big Red Slide, while roaming performers such as bubble artists, stilt walkers and caricature artists added to the atmosphere.
Saturday featured a special performance from Broadway Entertainment Group’s WICKED, followed by a themed meet-and-greet with characters Elphaba and Glinda. Families were invited on stage for photos, adding a theatrical highlight to the tournament’s social programme.
Hero Dubai Desert Classic
The 37th edition of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic continued its commitment to environmental responsibility, retaining its GEO Certified status as the first golf event in the Middle East to achieve the accreditation. Sustainability initiatives were further highlighted through the Green Incubator Challenge, launched in partnership with Deloitte, inviting innovators to propose solutions for sustainable events.
UK-based Notpla, known for its seaweed-based packaging that naturally biodegrades, was named the winner and will implement its solution at the 2027 tournament. A Highly Commended award was presented to 12-year-old Dalia Sebti for GreenFair+AI, a platform designed to help event organisers track sustainability efforts while engaging fans through eco-challenges.
The Mental Fitness & Recovery Zone returned for a third year, offering players services such as massage therapy, breathwork and mindfulness sessions. The initiative reinforced the tournament’s ongoing focus on player wellbeing alongside elite competition.
Simon Corkill, Executive Tournament Director of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, praised both the champion and the wider event. He highlighted the strength of the field, the quality of golf on display and the blend of world-class sport, family entertainment and sustainability innovation that defined the week.
