Abu Dhabi to unveil new waterfront attraction unlike anything seen before
Al Maryah Waterfront to feature 30m sphere and record-scale fountain show
ABU DHABI – Abu Dhabi’s waterfront skyline is set for a striking new addition, with a large-scale fountain and illuminated sphere planned for Al Maryah Island.
The project, now under construction, promises to transform evenings at the destination with a choreographed water, light and music display. Once complete, it is expected to draw crowds in a similar fashion to Dubai’s iconic fountain attractions.
Work on the Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement began in April 2026, led by developer Mubadala. While an official opening date has not yet been announced, the scale and design details signal a landmark attraction in the making.
Centrepiece design
At the heart of the project will be a 30-metre-tall luminous sphere positioned within the bay, designed to serve as a visual focal point. Surrounding it will be more than 1,000 AI-powered water jets capable of shooting water up to 75 metres into the air.
We have officially launched the Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement project, a monumental development in transforming the island’s lifestyle and leisure experience.

The fountain’s performances will be synchronised to a musical score composed by Ramin Djawadi, widely known for his work on the television series Game of Thrones. The installation itself is being developed by WET, a global leader in large-scale water features.
Waterfront upgrades
Beyond the fountain, the wider Al Maryah Waterfront project includes several enhancements aimed at improving visitor experience. A sea boardwalk extension will allow closer access to the water’s edge, offering new vantage points for the fountain shows.
To address the region’s climate, shaded outdoor cooling systems are also being introduced, enabling more comfortable visits during hotter months. In addition, new food and beverage zones are planned alongside event-ready public spaces, creating a more vibrant and flexible environment for gatherings and activities.
The development forms part of broader efforts to elevate Al Maryah Island as a leading lifestyle and business destination. The island already hosts premium retail, office and residential assets, with projects such as One Maryah Place adding to its portfolio.
According to Mubadala, the waterfront transformation is intended to support Abu Dhabi’s tourism ambitions by creating a dynamic public space that blends leisure, culture and commercial activity.
