Emirati Women’s Day
Emirati Women’s Day, held annually on 28 August, pays tribute to the achievements of Emirati women under the theme “Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years”. The occasion commemorates the 50th anniversary of the General Women’s Union, established by Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “The Mother of the Nation”, whose vision has shaped the country’s progress in empowering women across society.
The UAE now ranks 13th globally in the UNDP Gender Equality Index, with women holding 50 percent of Federal National Council seats, 26 percent of ministerial positions, and leadership roles across education, climate change, and community development. Emirati women also represent 71 percent of UAE nationals in the workforce and own over 50,000 commercial licences valued at more than Dh60 billion.
